"I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me.
If you really knew Me,
you would know My Father as well.
From now on, you know Him and have seen Him."

Washing Each Others Feet

When HE had finished washing their feet, He put on His clothes and returned to His place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” He asked them.
“You call Me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I AM. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one
another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a
messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.”
John 13:12-17

What does it mean to wash another’s feet? What do you think that the Lord is saying here? Are we to literally get down on our hands and knees and wash the
feet of one another? Jesus wanted to make sure that His disciples understood what He wanted them to do, what their ministry was to be about and to confirm as
it were the teaching that He had been teaching.

Let’s look at the life of Jesus.
“The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and
‘sinners.’  But wisdom is proved right by her actions” (Matthew 11:19).
Jesus certainly put Himself into everyday situations in order to show the way in which
God wants us to live our lives. He placed Himself in ordinary things, He shared meals, He walked from place to place, meeting with people where they lived,
where they worked, where they worshipped and even out in the middle of fields and mountains. He taught His way through words, images, and actions both
small and large showing Himself though everyday living.
Jesus said, “And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My
disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward” (Matthew 10:42).
Jesus healed with a touch or with a word and it was done. He chose ordinary
people to surround Himself with and to teach. He chose fishermen, a tax collector, a woman by a well, a woman caught in adultery to show that we are to be
among people in everyday living to share in our lives in God.

Washing of the feet, means to do even the most undignified things for others. Mother Teresa washed the hands and feet of those she picked up off the streets
of Calcutta. She showed them the love of Christ with a touch. She didn’t force anyone to choose Christ, but just showed them how wonderful His love is and
how her love for Him brought her to care for these dying people. She learned this from Jesus. While others went in the other direction when lepers came
around, or shunned them in communities away from the towns, Jesus met them where they were and He healed them with a touch or a word. Some will hear the
word or feel through the touch, what Jesus is saying, and come back to learn of Him, others will merely go on their way, never knowing the truth. We read how
Jesus healed 10 lepers, with one of them being a Samaritan; these were people who Jews did not associate with.
Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed?
Where are the other nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?”
Then He said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made
you well”
(Luke 17:19).

How do you see the work of God? Do you see it in the ordinary or in the extraordinary? Do you wait for God to work or speak in the extraordinary times or do
you work and speak to those around you in the ordinary times? Are you caught up in waiting for the Lord to do something instead of working through the
ordinary and living a life in the way of the Lord?

We can get caught up in those extraordinary times. When we have had a taste of God divinely working out in our lives His will, we want more of that. But we
have to live in the ordinary, the everyday living stuff. We have to live and work and shop and walk and talk with all those that God puts in our path. We have to
live our lives doing little ordinary things for others, cooking or cleaning, talking or listening. We have to share our lives, our experiences with others about the
ordinary things through which God shows Himself to us and God uses the ordinary things that we do to show Himself to others in what we do. Our lives are to
be lived following the way of the Lord and living our lives as an offering to Him. That means that all of our lives should show God in how we live, how we act,
what we speak so that we are constantly ministering to others, in essence, washing their feet.

We have to live our lives through our example in how we deal with situations. Jesus never put Himself above others, He met with people where they lived. It was
through a simple act that Zacchaeus was brought to accept the Lord’s way.
When Jesus reached the spot, He looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come
down immediately. I must stay at your house today.”
So he came down at once and welcomed Him gladly. All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has
gone to be the guest of a ‘sinner’” (Luke 19:5-7).

Are you living your life doing simple things for others, showing them the goodness of the Lord and allowing them to freely choose to accept Jesus? Or are you
throwing stones?
The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus,
“Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do You say? They were using this
question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing Him (John 8:3-6).
Here is the trap that many are in. They feel they are righteous and so they stand
and accuse others in sin. And Jesus did this:
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with His finger. When they kept on questioning Him, He
straightened up and said to them,
“If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground
(John 8:6-8).

Our lives are spent with too much other things and not enough time sitting at the feet of Jesus. It is only there where we will find what Jesus is trying to tell us.
We must do the simple things for each other, care for one another and especially love one another, for without love, we have not Christ, for God is love. We
have to be open to hear God speak to us through many different things, people and His Word. We must be open to hear and to obey God’s Word to us and
through us.

Sometimes we are too caught up in life to hear the Word of the Lord, but if we would slow down, if we would see and listen to what is going on around us, we
can become aware of what God is saying. Sometimes our circumstances show us when we are not in touch with God, things are not going right and everything
feels wrong. We have to at that point examine ourselves to evaluate the circumstances and look at things from all sides. We have to be aware that sometimes
God is telling us that we must not be where we are or with who we are with. Sometimes we are wandering away from God, hoping that He’s not watching us and
that He won’t catch us with what we are doing. Then there are times when you have been doing things that you know that you shouldn’t be doing, and God
sends you a big message, it could be a health issue, it could be job issue, it could be child issue, but the point of fact is that God wants you to come to Him and
ask Him for His direction for your life. We may not want to do what God wants, we may prefer to be out of God’s radar, but we never are. God knows what we
are doing when we are doing things and because He loves you, He will give you a sign that you are not following His plan. And if you are not a believer, God will
still put signs out there for you because He wants you to come and have faith in Him.

Some people feel that God hates them because nothing in their lives is going right. They could not be farther from the truth. The ministry of every Christian is
to show these brothers and sisters that God loves them and He desires that they give their lives to Him. We were created by God for God and He has a plan for
our lives. Some are given a vision of that plan and some never come into a relationship with God in order to have that vision. It is hard but giving yourself to
Jesus is easy and sweet. You can live a life of faith and trust in the Lord. You can trust Him for all the things in your life. If you put Him first, if you put the
kingdom of heaven first, you will come into His truth. It means a life of service to others, giving of yourself, your time, your money all in order to build the
kingdom of God.

Life is best when one can be at peace with God and with oneself. Worry is of the devil and God wants you to trust Him. He wants you to follow His way, listen to
His truth and live out His life in all that we say, what we do and how we live. Give, yourself and your stuff and trust in God to provide what you need. Do His work
and He will reward you.

Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation
of the world. For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat…I was in prison and you came to visit Me…Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed
You…The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for Me…I tell you the truth, whatever you
did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
Matthew 25:37-46
